What CourseKata Technology Does
CourseKata technology sits at the hub of our research and development process, serving the needs of curriculum designers, developers, students, educators, and researchers.
- For designers, the technology manages distributed version control of content using git, a protocol used by software engineers worldwide
- For students and educators, the technology delivers interactive content to their local learning management system (LMS), and provides real-time access to students’ responses to formative assessments and coding exercises
- For researchers, the technology provides access to de-identified student data for analysis, and tools for running random-assignment experiments to compare different versions within classes
Integrated Jupyter Notebooks
CourseKata’s fully-integrated Jupyter hub is used for in-class activities, assessments, and student data analysis projects.
Jupyter is an authentic cloud-hosted platform used by professional statisticians and data scientists to run data analyses (using R or Python) and write reports on the results.
- A full library of curated notebooks provides a place to begin for teachers just getting started with CourseKata
- Teachers modify existing notebooks or create their own, and publish them to their class with the click of a button
- Teachers use notebooks to guide students through in-class lessons in which students follow along, either alone, in groups, or as part of a whole-class activity
- Students write and run code directly in their notebooks, and write summaries of what they have done, what they have found, and what it means
- Students submit their completed work to their teacher for feedback and grading, or email their notebooks to classmates for review
